Shanxiao sales pavilion-modern building technologies in commercial architecture
Fog as part of the façade
"Building floating in the clouds" or "House in the fog" is how Chongqing residents call the Shanxiao Sales Pavilion, which has recently appeared in this Chinese city. The authors of the project - the architects of the Beijing-based AOE studio - defined its artistic concept as "a building hidden in nature." What is this concept? Why are there clouds of fog around the Shanxiao Sales Pavilion, which are a full-fledged part of the outer shell of the pavilion? How can traditional Chinese architecture and parametric architecture harmonize? Read below:
Modern building technologies make it possible to build even the most unusual houses. That is why the Beijing architectural studio AOE actively uses innovative construction technologies in its projects, because the mission of the studio is to create bright spaces of the city of the future. Responding to the demands of modern man, AOE design solutions combine science and technology with art and culture, resulting in the necessary rethinking of urban life, taking into account local culture and the natural landscape. Not surprisingly, in their recent project, the Shanxiao Sales Pavilion, Chinese traditional architecture and parametric architecture are closely intertwined.
When creating the Shanxiao Sales Pavilion, AOE architects took as a basis the principle of unity with nature, which distinguishes the architecture of China, as well as the motives of Chinese landscape painting. At the same time, modern construction technologies were used to implement the project. The building, whose shape resembles a traditional Chinese dwelling, consists of two parts: an office on the ground floor and retail space on the second. Its main feature is an unusual facade. Firstly, special perforated plates are placed around the curtain wall, which act as blinds. Their wavy shapes have been calculated using special computer programs to provide the building with maximum protection from the sun, and at the same time resemble the outlines of neighboring mountains and clouds. Secondly, this parametric architecture of the façade is complemented by special spray devices that create puffs of real fog around the pavilion and make it a full-fledged layer of the façade. This is a rather unusual WOW effect, because its purpose is not to highlight the building, but to hide it in the surrounding landscape. However, "House in the Fog" has already become very popular among tourists. after all, his goal is not to highlight the building, but to hide it in the surrounding landscape.
